The landscape paintings are created in-situ. They aren't intended primarily as topographical paintings or 'portraits' of nature. The intention is more to embody, in the calligraphy of washes, the flow, energy of nature. The land not as background but as a living system that we are part of. Whilst working directly in the landscape, the forms of the paintings over a series become broader, more abstract. However the necessity, actuality of the subject provides the underlying structure and harmony. As the work develops the intention is that the paintings should become more, not less particular in their involvement with nature and a sense of place.
